Three of Audi Sport Italia's new RS5 model will be present on the Superstars grid this season, with the news that the MTM and KMS teams of Germany and Sweden respectively will run one car each for two young drivers.
MTM will be running 18-year-old German driver Thomas Schoffler, who after racing in the VW Scirocco R-Cup made his Superstars debut in an Audi RS4 at Misano last year.
KMS (Kristofferson Motor Sport) won the Swedish Touring Car Championship five times with Audis, and will field 23-year-old Johan Kristoffersson, who was runner-up in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia last year and also competed in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship.
Both squads will receive technical support from Audi Sport Italia, and join former Superstars champion Gianni Morbidelli who will be racing a new RS5 for the Italian outfit.
“I’m really happy and proud to have this brand-new car,” said Morbidelli. “Next week we will complete the program’s final steps after the whole team put an impressive effort made of hard work and dedication. During the first week of March we will be on-track for a test in order to gather some feedback concerning the mechanical part and also the reliability.”
Schoffler added: “Being able to run in the 2012 Superstars Series is definitely a great chance for me. I want to thank the team, as I really trust them, for the confidence they put in me. My goal will be to grow-up step-by-step and reward them for that confidence. I’m sure that one of the men to beat will be my fellow Audi racer Morbidelli.”
The Superstars season commences at Monza on 1 April.
