After their starring role at the 2011 event this year's Silverstone Classic powered by the AA will again host Jaguar E-Types as part of a packed 24 race program for the three day event (July 20-22).

As part of the 50th anniversary celebration  last year 767 E-Types set a world record by parading around the Silverstone with a total of over 1,000 packed into the infield of the Grand Prix circuit. On track the E-Type Challenge race series entertained the crowd with two races and the championship will return to the event this year for another two races.

The announcement confirms Silverstone as one of just five tracks to host a round of the E-Type Challenge in 2012, and the 53 car maximum grid on Silverstone's Grand Prix track will likely make for the biggest fields of the year.

“With grids of more than 50 competition-prepared E-types, the two Jaguar races were among last summer's highlights – that's why we are so delighted to welcome back the Jaguar E-type Challenge to the Silverstone Classic in July,” enthused event organiser Nick Wigley. “We will be staging two rounds of the series with races on both Saturday and Sunday, thus providing fans with a double dose of high quality and truly evocative action. The fast nature of the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit certainly suits the E-type and I'm sure all those who enjoyed last year's races will be thrilled by the promise of a repeat while those who missed last year's Classic will have another chance to see what all the excitement was about.”

The E-Type Challenge completes the race program alongside races for historic single seaters and Formula One machinery as well as Group C sportscars and touring cars from the BTCC and DTM. In total the race entries will total over 1,000 cars.

As well the on track action several famous cars will follow the E-Type in celebrating important milestones at Silverstone Classis this year.

There are golden anniversaries for the AC Cobra, Triumph Spitfire and MGB, a 60th birthday for BMW Car Club GB set to be celebrated at the UK's first ever Z-Fest for the German marque's line of roadsters. Silverstone will also host the largest ever gathering of Ferrari F40, with over 50 registered to date, as part of silver annivesary celebration, a milestone also passed by the fire breathing Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500.
