Iranian racing driver Kourosh Khani raised eyebrows with a highly competitive performance in the FIA Formula Two Championship's official pre-season test at Silverstone.
Khani, who enjoying a race-winning campaign in the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship last season, recently announced a switch to the F2 series for 2012, his first move into European single-seater racing.
Despite his lack of experience in F2 machinery, Khani still beat more experienced and fancied runners, including the reigning Formula Renault BARC champion Dino Zamparelli and F2 regulars James Cole and Plamen Kralev, ending the day seventh quickest.
Despite his superb performance, Khani left Silverstone disappointed that he didn't top the timesheets, believing that with more familiarity of the cars ecoboost system, he would have done.
Khani said: “It was a great test. I am delighted to show that I will be competitive in the Championship, I’m gutted that I did not use my ecoboost on my last run on new tyres, as the extra boost would have seen me at the top of the times for sure.”
