Sean Walkinshaw has confirmed he will return to the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship in 2012 with a different team, Mtech Lite.

18 year old Walkinshaw made his car-racing debut in the series last year with Hillspeed. The season was a real learning curve for the student, who ended up with a best result of 13th as he finished 22nd in the championship.

Walkinshaw now heads into his second season with new team Mtech hoping to challenge at the front and his recent testing performances has put him in a confident mood. At the first officially timed run of the pre-season at Donington Park last week, Walkinshaw lapped within 0.5 seconds of 2011 champion Dino Zamparelli's lap record and ended the day as the fastest BARC driver.

Walkinshaw said: “It's been a good start to the year so far. Everything is going really well with the guys at MTech, it's a great team and they're really helping me improve. Donington was great, to get within half a second of the lap record shows the sort of improvements we've been making. Formula Renault BARC is a very tough championship but, if we continue like this, it should be a good season.”
