Luciano Bacheta and Markus Pommer were the men to beat in the two FIA Formula Two Championship free practice sessions at Portimao on Friday.
After claiming a fine double victory on home soil at the season opener at Silverstone two weeks' ago, Bacheta led the way in a wet first session.
Fellow British ace Dino Zamparelli was second fastest, the Bristol-based driver ending up just within two tenths of Bacheta's pace.
German driver Pommer was third fastest, just ahead of Swiss racer Christopher Zanella. Kevin Mirocha was fifth, ahead of Silverstone pole-sitter Matheo Tuscher and Brit Daniel McKenzie. Thursday test pacesetter Mihai Marinescu was eighth, with series debutant Victor Guerin ninth and Alex Fontana in tenth.
The track had dried come the afternoon session, where Pommer finished up more than two tenths clear of second-placed Marinescu. Fontana took third place ahead of Tuscher and Bacheta.
Parthiva Sureshwaren and David Zhu clocked impressive times to finish in sixth and seventh places respectively, ahead of last year's runner-up Zanella. McKenzie and Mirocha completed the top ten.
