Dani Clos will return to the GP2 Series this weekend when he replaces Josef Kral at the Barwa Addax Team in Bahrain, the team have announced.
Addax won the teams' title last year with drivers Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde, but neither of their new-for-2012 driver lineup of Johnny Cecotto or Kral managed to score any points at the season opener in Malaysia last month.
Team boss Alejandro Agag revealed in a team press release after the Sepang weekend that he had come close to signing Davide Valsecchi for this season, before the Italian switched to DAMS. It now seems that Czech driver Kral has had to pay the price for the team's underwhelming start to the season.
Clos raced in GP2 for three years between 2009 and 2011, all with the Racing Engineering team. He finished fourth overall in 2009, scoring his sole GP2 Series win in Turkey. Last year he slipped to ninth overall. Clos tested for Addax in testing at Jerez last October, and has since become a reserve driver for the HRT F1 Team.
