Italian racer Luca Ghiotto will race for Russian Time during the 2017 GP2 Series season, where he will join the retained Artem Markelov.
Both drivers were race winners in 2016, Ghiotto taking victory in the Sprint race in Malaysia and Markelov winning the Feature race in Monaco, with both looking to improve on their final positions in the championship from last season, with the Italian having finished eighth and the Russian tenth.
Ghiotto moves across from the Italian Trident team, and believes the line-up of himself and Markelov has good potential for a strong season.
“Let me firstly thank all at Russian Time for the great opportunity they have offered me,” revealed Ghiotto, who replaces Raffaele Marciello in the line-up. “Having crossed their cars a few times in 2016, I know how good they are!
“I think we have great potential to develop together. I’m looking forward to working with my new team mate Artem and can’t wait to hit the track in March to start work.”
Markelov will be competing in his fourth season of GP2 Series racing with the team, and is looking to improve his consistency as a front-running challenger in 2017.
“We made an important step last year, with a win and a top 10 finish in the championship,” said Markelov. “The GP2 series is highly competitive and I’m looking forward to doing even better in 2017 and challenging for more wins and hopefully becoming a consistent front-runner.”
