Sweden's Johan Kristoffersson scored the first International Superstars Series pole position for the new Audi RS5 at Imola, at only the car's second race weekend.
Making his Superstars debut this year with the car being run by his family team KMS together with Audi Sport Italia, Kristoffersson claimed pole with his final effort of the 30 minute session. He finished up only 0.129 seconds clear of Mercedes driver Andrea Larini.
Thomas Biagi took third to ensure three different (German) marques in the top three places with his BMW, less than a tenth adrift of Larini. Gianni Morbidelli was fourth in his Audi, with less than three tenths covering the top four in a close session.
Former F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi qualified in fifth place after his victory first time out at Monza in his Mercedes, one place ahead of Chevrolet Lumina pilot Francesco Sini. German youngster Thomas Schoffler put the third and final Audi in seventh on the grid, ahead of championship leader Max Pigoli's Jaguar.
Christian Fittipaldi finished up ninth as he makes his Superstars debut in the No.1 Maserati Quattroporte raced at Monza by Mika Salo, ensuring that six brands will start from the top nine places on the grid for the first of Sunday's race. Stefano Gabellini completed the top ten in the second BMW.
