Niccolo Antonelli believes there is room for improvement at San Carlo Gresini Moto3 despite finishing a superb eighth in Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix. The Italian rookie's achievement was overlooked given the astonishing performance of compatriot Romano Fenati and Antonelli did so despite feeling far from comfortable with his FTR Honda.

“Things went pretty well today and I’ve picked up my first points of the season. I’m happy with the result but still not completely happy with my feeling for the bike. We have a lot of work to do to find a set-up that gives me more confidence but now we go to Estoril and hopefully with some better weather we will get the opportunity to do that.”

Team Manager Fausto Gresini was impressed with Antonelli's performance given the difficulty in terms of weather conditions and his motivation to do better next time around.

“Niccolò had a good first race with this new bike even though the track conditions were not perfect. It hasn’t been an easy weekend with the lack of dry track time for us to set the bike up but he rode intelligently to make the most of the situation. It was important to finish the race and he’s picked up some important points that will give him confidence now. He’s not happy but that’s normal because he always wants to do better.”
