Romano Fenati is confident of maintaining his 100% podium record in Grand Prix racing after qualifying sixth at Estoril. The Moto3 championship leader admitted he wasn't totally happy with his FTR-Honda in free practice but feels he has arrived at a good race set-up in time for tomorrow.
“We struggled a little bit with the setup today due to changing conditions on track, but the team was able to solve the problems quickly. I closed in 6th place, in second row, which is not bad. We preferred to work in anticipation of the race, and I found a constant and fast pace. I’m confident about tomorrow.”
Alessandro Tonucci was also unhappy with his bike but couldn't ride around the problems like his teammate had. Tonucci will start 21st and knows he needs to make up ground quickly in the race tomorrow.
“This morning I was quite fast during free practice, but during qualifying I couldn’t get a good feeling with the bike and ride it like I wanted to. I need to start well tomorrow to stay with the front group and climb my way back.”
Team Italia FMI's technical coordinator Roberto Locatelli expects Fenati to challenge for victory tomorrow and hopes Tonucci can find the necessary improvements in warm-up to help him move forward.
“Fenati did a good job and will be able to fight in the front tomorrow. Tonucci had some issues with tyre choice and couldn’t post a fast lap. I’m confident that tomorrow’s warm-up session will help him find the right combination for the race.”
