Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship front-runner Seb Morris made a long-awaited return to the podium during the penultimate meeting of the season at Donington Park.
The BRDC Rising Star made a return to form after a tough couple of meetings at Thruxton and Croft, securing a third place in the final race of the triple-header weekend, although it wasn’t all plain sailing for the Fortec Motorsport driver.
A disappointing opening race saw him end up in the gravel trap after an attempted a move on Kieran Vernon for third at Redgate resulted in contact, spinning him out the race.
After finishing fifth in race two, albeit just 0.009s off fourth as he crossed the line side-by-side with Josh Webster, Morris produced a great drive in race three to initially challenge the race leader David Wagner, before fighting back to finish third after being shuffled down to fourth, his first podium finish since Round Five at Rockingham.
“We definitely had the pace to win”, said the Ginetta Ambassador, “I’m disappointed with the first couple of laps, I got taken advantage of on cold tyres. I took the start more carefully than I probably should have as I was mindful of a potential penalty for creeping off the line on the slope, otherwise I think I would have had [David] Wagner off the start and it would have been a different story.
“It’s a shame we couldn’t win but it was a fantastic race and I’m really happy to be back on the podium after a very disappointing couple of months. Hopefully we can build on this and be on the podium at Silverstone to end the season on a high.”
