Michael Epps will compete in the upcoming Protyre Formula Renault BARC Winter Series with Core Motorsport.
The 20 year old recently completed his maiden season in BARC with JWA-Avila, ending the year on a high with seasons best fourth and seventh place finishes at the Silverstone finale, completing the season thirteenth in the championship.
Epps has joined new team Core Motorsport for the four-race series and tested with the team at Brands Hatch this week ahead of the first rounds around the Grand Prix circuit.
Core Motorsport, run by the experienced Steve Durrant, made it’s BARC debut at Silverstone, running a single car for Anton Spires.
“It was a bit of a jump in the dark, but the test went very well so all is quite positive,” said Epps. “Steve offered us a deal we couldn’t really sneeze at, especially as our budget is a little tough heading into winter. We went from an unexpected phone call one afternoon to testing the very next day at Brands Hatch.
“I’d not been around Brands in a Renault before the test so I wasn’t expecting too much straight away, but we were only around half a second off the times set during the 2011 BARC meeting. I wasn’t even using my own seat mould as we didn’t have the time. As soon as I’m comfortable in the car and things are prepped for the first race I’ll be able to deliver a bit more, and so will the team probably.
“I’m looking forward to driving the GP Circuit in front of huge BTCC crowds too, that’s going to be awesome.”
