Spires Aiming For Top Ten On BARC Return

1 Mins read

Anton Spires is looking for a competitive top ten showing when he returns to the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship this weekend at Silverstone.

Spires has signed a deal to run with new team Core Motorsport for the final rounds of the year, having spent the season so far competing in the Monoposto Championship in his Formula Renault, picking up four podiums in total, including one at Silverstone in May.

“I’ve successfully run the Monoposto spec F.Renault with Julian Tanser and the plan was to spec the car for the BARC series but obtaining parts became an issue,” explained Spires.

“Core Motorsport offered me a drive and their sponsors have contributed significantly towards the cost of running me at Silverstone. We had had a successful test at Brands Hatch last Friday, the whole team were very professional and left me in no doubt I will have an excellently prepared car for Silverstone.”

It marks Spires’ second appearance in the championship, having made his debut in the 2011 season finale, once again during a BTCC meeting at Silverstone. Having challenged for the top ten a year ago, the AA Drivetech and Booost-backed driver is aiming higher this time around.

“Last year with very little experience I finished thirteenth and twelfth,” he added. “Having spent more time this season in a F. Renault, albeit in Monoposto spec, I’ve got more experience this time round, but I’m short of budget to put in sufficient time testing so I must be realistic.

“Looking at the quality of the  grid this year, I would aim to get into the top ten but we’ll see, at least at the end of the weekend I’ll know how much more work I have to do to get to the front.”
