Low Key Start To Sepang Pre-Season MotoGP Test

1 Mins read

Danilo Petrucci set the only time of note on the first day of official MotoGP testing in 2013 at Sepang. Three CRT teams using the new Magneti Marelli ECU were given two extra days testing in Malaysia before the rest of the teams join in on Tuesday but a series of problems kept the six riders in their garage for the most part.

The test gives Bridgestone the first opportunity to test out their new compounds for the upcoming season in hot conditions. The CRT runners will be allocated compounds one step softer than the factory teams, soft and medium in this case with the factory squads running on medium and hard slicks.

The new rubber wasn’t used much though with Petrucci putting in 27 laps, by far the most of the day, although his new teammate Lukas Pesek was unable to make it out of the garage. Besides Petrucci, Hiroshi Aoyama was the only man to register a time but the Avintia Blusens team will have simply been pleased to see him ride the FTR-Kawasaki in anger after breaking his wrist in a motocross accident two weeks ago. Electrical problems limited his teammate Hector Barbera to just four exploratory laps.

Forward Racing also endured a frustrating day having failed to receive all their parts in time to build the bikes prior to the test, forcing them to complete the job on-site. As a result, Colin Edwards completed a single out-lap late on while Claudio Corti will have to wait until tomorrow as his bike couldn’t be readied in time.
