MGR Sign Trio For 2013 Formula Renault

1 Mins read

Chris Middlehurst, Tom Oliphant and Matteo Ferrer have signed for MGR Motorsport for the 2013 Protyre Formula Renault Championship.

Front-runner Middlehurst is likely to lead an eventual four-car squad, with fellow second year competitor Oliphant and series newcomer Ferrer his first team-mates to be announced.

Middlehurst ended his maiden campaign in the series ninth overall with two podiums to his name, before going on to add two more in the four-race season-ending Winter Series. The 18 year old is targeting the title this season.

Oliphant had a difficult first Formula Renault season with Antel Motorsport, taking a best finish of tenth, but enjoyed a marked improvement when he joined MGR for the final weekend of the Winter Series, taking a career best finish of seventh.

Ferrer joins the series with one year of car racing experience under his belt, having finished eighth overall in the now defunct InterSteps championship in 2012.

“I watched Matteo develop during the 2012 Intersteps Championship, and was really quite impressed considering his complete lack of experience”, said Godwin, “From what I saw during our winter testing in Valencia, I believe we can look forward to a very competitive year. Tom has looked strong in winter testing and we’re confident he’s going to have a good season, he did a great job with us in the Winter Series considering how much he had to adapt to the new car and team.

“We’re very confident Chris will be challenging up at the front from the off, what he achieved last year was very impressive – especially towards the end of the main season and in the Winter Series. We’re sure, with our determined and structured approach, that Chris will be a strong contender.”
