Campos Racing will enter two SEAT Leon cars in this year’s World Touring Car Championship after joining forces with Joan Orus’s Sunred operation.
“I am delighted to incorporate my team into Campos Racing,” said Spaniard Orus, whose team has run SEAT Leons in the WTCC under various banners since 2008.
“Together we may establish a stronger team that will be able to aim for ambitious programmes. My own task is to put in place a touring car department within Campos Racing for WTCC and ETCC.”
Ex-Formula 1 and touring car driver Adrian Campos has enjoyed success in single-seaters with championship crowns in Formula 3 and GP2. They have also dabbled in touring cars in the Superstars Series and were set to enter the WTCC with a Honda Accord in 2009 before plans were scrapped.
“I am very happy, as this is the first important step for establishing a formidable team,” said Campos.
“Joan Orus is one of the persons who know better how to run a professional team for touring cars. I hope this collaboration will give Campos Racing as many titles as we have won in single seater championships in the last fifteen years.”
As well as running two 1.6L turbocharged cars in the WTCC, the team will enter a normally-aspriated 2.0L version of the SEAT in the European Touring Car Cup.
