Hickin Joins Core Motorsport For Formula Renault

1 Mins read

Karting graduate Piers Hickin has signed with Core Motorsport to make his transition into single seater racing in the 2013 Protyre Formula Renault Championship.

The 16 year old is planning a two year programme in the series with the Essex-based outfit, joining the series with karting success from Honda Cadets through to Rotax Minimax in Super One.

Piers has worked hard over the winter in preparation for the new campaign, combining his car-racing debut in the 2012 Ginetta Junior Winter Series with single-seater testing and training in Core’s team simulator.

“I’ve found the simulator training extremely helpful,” said Hickin. “It’s great to be able to learn what I need to do and make improvements in a low pressure environment. This really allows me to make the most of the precious on track testing time we have, as I can go to circuits knowing exactly what I need to do. It has helped me build my confidence in the car, and I am now looking forward to the next couple of seasons with the team.”

“Working together with us, Piers has shown great potential for the future, but we are treating this very much as a two year learning programme in which Piers will build his skills providing him with a firm foundation for his future racing career,” added team principal Steve Durrant.

“The whole team are already thoroughly enjoying working with him and very much looking forward to continuing working with him as he progresses in the single-seater world.”
