Fortec Motorsport dominated qualifying for Rounds 9, 10 and 11 of the 2013 Protyre Formula Renault Championship at Croft, with their drivers Hongwei Cao and Weiron Tan sharing the pole positions.
Cao (pictured) topped the timesheets in both sessions to take pole for races one and three of the weekend, his first ever pole positions in the championship, while Tan’s second best time in the opening session was enough to secure him his third pole position of the season.
In the North Yorkshire sunshine, Chinese racer Cao added a fourth place for race two to round off his best qualifying session in the championship, with Tan replicating that feat by putting himself on the front row for all three races.
Fortec were the class of the field during the session, with the team holding four of the top six grid positions for each of the races thanks to Sam MacLeod (Fourth, third and fifth) and Wei Fung Thong (Sixth, fifth and third), two drivers who benefitted from gaining experience of the track in the Formula Ford GB races two weeks ago.
Championship leader Chris Middlehurst had a quiet session, the MGR Motorsport driver picking up a best of third for race one, to go alongside eighth and sixth for the other two races. Team-mate Jorge Cevallos meanwhile secured a front row start for race two, alongside seventh for race one and eighth for race three.
Fellow championship contender Jake Cook had a mixed day, with fifth and sixth from the opening session tainted by a frustrating second session, the Hillspeed driver only going eleventh quickest in a session which saw his team-mate Matthew Rao impress by going fourth fastest.
