Weiron Tan believes the 2013 Protyre Formula Renault Championship title is still up for grabs, despite Chris Middlehurst holding a healthy lead at the top of the points with just four races remaining.
Middlehurst’s lead currently sits at 92 points, 76 including dropped scores, however Tan is the driver in form in the championship, having taken the last four race victories.
Tan, a member of the Caterham F1 driver development programme, headed into the Croft weekend last time out 129 points behind Middlehurst in the standings, however a treble win in Yorkshire and victory in the opening race at Rockingham today has seen him take a chunk out of the lead.
Now the Malaysian racer believes that on his current form, he can defy the odds and overturn the remaining deficit.
“He [Middlehurst] has got a good lead, but I think anything is still possible,” the Fortec Motorsport ace told thecheckeredflag.co.uk. “I think the championship is still up for grabs. I will do my best, the team will do everything they can, and we’ll see where we are at the end of the season.”
Middlehurst heads into tomorrow’s two races in Corby knowing that a win and second place would guarantee him the title a weekend early. Round 13 takes place from 11:05, with Round 14 at 15:35, reports from both online on The Checkered Flag soon after.
