Rosso Completes Brands Hat-Trick

2 Mins read

Juan Rosso completed a perfect end to his 2013 Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain campaign with his third win in three races on the final weekend at Brands Hatch.

In wet conditions, the Argentinian ace led from lights-to-flag as all sorts of action kicked off behind him, with a number of front-runners getting caught out by the tricky weather.

Rosso made a great start to maintain his lead from pole at the start of the fifteen minute encounter, with Simon Rudd maintain second ahead of Camren Kaminsky and Jayde Kruger.

A quick-starting Harrison Scott grabbed two spots off the line to move up to sixth, but it all went wrong when the Scholarship champion spun on the exit of Paddock, with fast reactions from James Abbott just seeing him miss him.

That proved not to be the only drama of the opening lap, as heading into the final corner, a misjudgement in the spray for Max Marshall saw him run into the back of his JTR team-mate Sam Brabham, sending their both into the gravel and out of the race.

Their incident brought out the safety car, in the process slashing Rosso’s great lead out front, the Jamun Racing ace having led by 3.4 seconds after the opening lap.

At the restart, the JTR nightmare continued, as a challenge by Kruger for third at Paddock Hill bend resulted in side-by-side contact with Kaminsky which sent the American into the gravel and out of the race, meaning champions JTR would have no cars finishing the final race of the year.

The contact meant Kruger lost ground to Andrew Richardson and Abbott, who in turn passed Rudd later in the lap to move into the podium positions. Rudd meanwhile lost out to Kruger and a recovering Scott a lap later to slip to sixth.

Rosso meanwhile was streaking away out front, a clear gap over the pack behind allowing him to cruise to the line for his third win of the weekend.

Richardson briefly lost second to Abbott on lap six, but fought back at Paddock a lap later to secure second, after a stunning drive through from eleventh on the grid. The finish matched his best result of the season, and was his first podium finish since Thruxton in May.

Abbott picked up his second podium of the weekend, and the season, with third, one second clear of Kruger. Scott took sixth ahead of series debutant Rudd, while Connor Mills took a seasons-best finish of seventh, Luke Reade completing the finishers behind.
