Antonelli Stays Ahead As Miller Closes In On Day Two

2 Mins read

Niccolo Antonelli set the pace in Moto3 testing at Valencia for the second day in succession but his dominance was finally challenged by Jack Miller. The Italian broke into the 1:39s but only once Miller had done so himself earlier in the day, Antonelli’s best time just eight thousandths quicker than the Australian.

Although he didn’t enjoy the comfortable advantage of day one, Niccolo was pleased with the progress made and confident of more to come on the final day.

“I am very happy because apart from the lap time we were able to further improve the bike setup and now we are really close to what we might call an ideal setting. Of course, we can always improve in many areas, but at this point they are just refinement: in particular, I think there is still some room for progress both on corner entry and exit. Today the track conditions were better than in the first day of testing and many riders lowered their times, but we are still on top, and this is really important”.

KTM motorcycles made up the top seven positions with Danny Kent third ahead of Romano Fenati, Isaac Vinales and two more Italian youngsters, Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini. Miguel Oliveira was eighth on the fastest Mahindra, three quarters of a second down, while Alex Rins finally showed a flash of speed from the new Honda to finish ninth.
