Miller Makes Bright Start To Jerez Moto3 Test

2 Mins read

Jack Miller picked up at the second pre-season test where he finished the last by topping the timesheets on day one at Jerez. The Australian was a comfortable three tenths clear of the rest of the field as KTM motorcycles continued to dominate in the junior class.

Rain overnight left a damp track for the opening session this morning which subsequently saw precious little action. Business picked up later on though and Miller lowered the benchmark time to a 1:46.975 by the end of the day, just three tenths away from the 2013 pole position. Isaac Vinales, who has replaced his championship-winning cousin at Team Calvo, was the only man within half a second of Miller with Husqvarna’s Danny Kent third fastest.

After dominating much of the Valencia test, Niccolo Antonelli found the going slightly tougher here with fourth his final result while Romano Fenati took fifth ahead of Efren Vazquez on the leading Honda machine, 0.870s off the pace. Jakub Kornfeil showed an upturn in performance from the first test in seventh ahead of Red Bull Rookies champion Karel Hanika while Philipp Oettl and Alex Marquez completed the top ten.

The notable absentee at Jerez this week is Alex Rins with the 2013 runner-up recovering after an operation to remove a cyst from his right wrist. His replacement Fabio Quartararo impressed on the Estrella Galicia Honda, ending today eleventh quickest.
