Round 1 of the 2014 ‘Autosport International’ BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship got underway at Blyton Circuit this weekend and in true club racing style didn’t fail to deliver excitement.
The fast flowing Blyton Circuit was the perfect setting for the season opening race which brought a new format – Open practice, three heats and a final for all drivers. The weekend provided some impressive racing with pole sitter in the Modified Class, Gary Cook (overall winner 2012) and Production rookie Oliver Brooks putting in some great performances.
Production A final saw Brooks run wide at the first corner, the result saw him swamped by a trio of Saxos – John Lyne, Martin Peters and Chris Harper; despite the tight racing, that would be how the result would be declared.
Modified A final saw a scrap ensue between Allan Tapscott in his RWD Corsa, Gary Dixon in his Astra and Gary Cook in his MGR. Tapscott would finish on to of the pile with Dixon and Cook crossing the line almost together.
The next round of the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship is to be held on 7 & 8 June at Pembrey and will be joined by the Clubmen Supercar drivers.
