The All-Inkl.com Munnich Motorsport team will run a pair of new Chevrolet Cruzes in the 2014 World Touring Car Championship, to be driven by Italian ace Gianni Morbidelli and team boss Rene Munnich.
The two Chevrolets are the last of six to be built by RML for the new WTCC regulations, with Campos Racing and ROAL Motorsport having previously committed to entering two each.
Former F1 driver Morbidelli returns to the WTCC having previously contested the 2006 season with Alfa Romeo. He won three consecutive Superstars Series seasons between 2007 and 2009, and clinched the International and Italian crowns again in 2013 with Audi.
“I am delighted to now be able to start in the WTCC again and to be working with Rene Munnich and his team, who did a good job as a newcomer to the World Touring Car Championship last year,” said 46-year-old Morbidelli.
Team owner Munnich contested his maiden season in the WTCC last year, claiming a best result of 14th. His team ran three SEAT Leons in total, with Rob Huff scoring two wins. The 2012 world champion has moved to Lada for 2014.
“I was offered the two new Chevrolet Cruze TC1s at the last minute and I could not refuse,” said Munnich.
“For me it is now not just only my second season in the WTCC, but also only my second season on the racetrack. Last year everything was new – not only the tracks but also the type of driving. I hope that the Chevrolet and the new, longer lasting tires will come towards me. I think top ten places or positions close behind should be my goal.”
