Double Pole for Bortolotti & Team Italy in Portimao

by Paul Hensby

Former Formula 2 Champion Mirko Bortolotti took both pole positions for the inaugural Formula Acceleration 1 weekend at the Portuguese track of Portimao for Team Italy.

Italian Bortolotti lapped the track in 1:32.694s in the first session on Friday evening to beat Dutchman Nigel Melker and Swede Felix Rosenqvist. Fourth place went to Slovakian Richard Gonda, while another Italian Sergio Campana, representing team France, was fifth.

In the second session on Saturday morning, it was Bortolotti once again who was fastest, and his 1:32.204s was 0.001s faster than Melker who was once again second. Rosenqvist and Gonda again were third and fourth, but German Sebastian Balthasar slipped his car into fifth ahead of Campana.

Spain’s Victor Garcia failed to set a time in the first qualifying session, but Mexican Picho Toledano failed to set a time in either session, and should he be allowed to race, will be starting at the back of the field.
