60 Seconds With… Steve Arpin

2 Mins read

In the latest 60 Seconds With… we catch up with US dirt racing superstar Steve Arpin as he concentrates on the 2014 Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship.

How old are you?

30

Where are you from?

Fort Frances, Ontario, it’s a small town north of Minnesota

How long have you been racing?

I started racing when I was 10

What are you racing in 2014 and in what series?

In 2014 I am focusing solely on Red Bull GRC

What is your first motor sport related memory?

Hahaha, it wasn’t even at the racetrack!!! It was when I woke up Christmas morning, I was eleven years old, and I got my first real race kart! It was incredible, just sitting there under the Christmas tree waiting to go for a ride!!

What and where was your first race?

First race was at the Riverside Speedway in Rainy River, Ontario. It was in an old go kart!

What is your best racing memory?

Winning the Wissota 100 will always be up on my list. That was our Super Bowl of dirt racing and I was only 18 years old I think.  Craig thatcher was my idol and I got to pass him for the win!! It was such a rush!

What are your hopes for the rest of the season?

Consistency is everything this year.  We have now shown that we are competitive, we just need to keep that up throughout the year and be smart about it.  Hopefully putting us in a great position points wise as the season comes to a close

What are your long term plans?

I really feel like I’ve found a home here in the GRC and I want to stick around for awhile. Royal purple has been a great partner and the series is experiencing such tremendous growth.  It’d be fun to grow my career together with the Red Bull GRC and Royal Purple

One song you would listen to to prepare yourself for a race?

Haha, the funny thing is, I’ve never listened to music to get me all jacked up before a race!! I’m more of one of those guys that just likes to chill in the peace and quiet and really focus on what’s ahead of me.  But, if I were to put my headphones on to get all revved up, you’d probably find some sort of rap playing! Makes you feel like a little bit of a bad ass!
