Dorian Boccolacci converted his pole position into a win in the first race of the weekend in Pau. The young Frenchman won by 0.379s from Dane Lasse Sorensen, while Anglo-Swiss driver Felix Hirsiger was third, a further eight seconds back.
Boccolacci withstood the attack of fellow front row starter Sorensen to lead into the first turn and was never headed in the next sixteen laps until the chequered flag. He also had to endure a red flag period at the end of lap two when Aussie Joseph Mawson attempted to pass Paul Hokfelt Jr for fourth, but collided with the Swiss driver at the Virage du Lycee that caused a traffic jam. While Mawson was able to continue, Hokfelt Jr, Bryan Elpitiya and Gjergj Haxhiu were all out.
On the restart, Boccolacci lead away superbly, and despite Sorensen’s best efforts, held on to the win. Hirsiger fell a little way behind in third, while Swiss driver David Droux kept Hirsiger honest in fourth with Mawson in fifth. Unfortunately for Mawson, he was excluded for the results for the accident he caused with Hokfelt Jr.
Three Frenchmen, Valentin Moineault, Amaury Richard and Erwan Jule therefore inherited fifth, sixth and seventh, with Russian Denis Bulatov eighth, Finn Simo Laaksonen ninth and Portuguese driver Joao Carvalho tenth and with race two pole position.
