Briton Cameron Twynham was the quickest driver over the three free practice sessions of the opening round of the EuroFormula Open at the Nurburgring. The Team West-Tec F3 driver set a best lap time in the third session of 1:53.063 to pip Campos Racing’s Spanish driver Alex Palou by 0.088s.
One of Twynham’s four West-Tec team-mates Tanart Sathienthirakul was third, the Thai driver beating fellow countryman Sandy Stuvik of RP Motorsport into fourth. Israeli driver Yarin Stern was fifth for West-Tec ahead of Emilio de Villota Motorsport’s Korean driver Che-One Lim.
The first two sessions of the EuroFormula Open, previously called the Euroepan F3 Open up to the end of 2013, were held on a wet track before it dried out for free practice three. The top twelve drivers were separated by under a second, with twenty-one drivers taking to the track during the day. German driver Nicholas Pohler missed the opening session of the day for West-Tec but ended seventh fastest overall, but Guatemalan driver Andres Saravia missed the final dry session and was therefore last of all the drivers in his RP Motorsport entry.
Qualifying and race one takes place on Saturday, with a second qualifying session and race on Sunday.
