The second French F4 qualifying session of the year took place at Pau and saw Frenchman Dorian Boccolacci take his maiden pole position. His best lap time of 1:19.629s saw him top a thrilling session that sets the grid for race three by 0.042s from Danish driver Lasse Sorensen. Paul Hokfelt Jr was third ahead of Felix Hirsiger.
Qualifying took place in ideal conditions, and it was Hirsiger who set the initial pace, the Anglo-Swiss driver having been fastest in the solitary practice session in the morning. At the halfway point of the session, Hokfelt Jr and Sorensen took turns at the top, just before Swiss-Albanian racer Gjergj Haxhiu crashed at Parc Beaumont to cause a red flag stoppage.
Once the green flag flew once more, Sorensen took back P1 from Hokfelt Jr, but in the final five minutes, Boccalacci came from nowhere to set a lap time that saw him take pole position, ahead of Sorensen, Hokfelt Jr and Hirsiger. Swiss driver David Droux was fifth, ahead of Frenchmen Valentin Hasse-Clot and Valentin Moineault in sixth and seventh. Championship leader Joseph Mawson qualified down in eighth. Bryan Elpitiya was ninth ahead of fellow Frenchman Erwan Jule.
For race one, where the grid is set from a drivers second best lap time in qualifying, Boccalocci will also start on pole position, his lap of 1:19.747s beating Sorensen once more by 0.060s. Hirsiger will start third ahead of Hokfelt Jr, Droux, Mawson, Moineault, Amaury Richard, Hasse-Clot and Elpitiya.
For Race two, the result of race one will determine the grid, with the top ten drivers being reversed.
