Marquez Back In The Groove On Friday At Le Mans

2 Mins read

Marc Marquez resumed his relentless dominance of the MotoGP season by topping both Friday practice sessions at Le Mans ahead of the French Grand Prix. The world champion has won all four races this season from pole position and given his form today, looks favourite to extend his undefeated streak.

Apart from a near-lowside which saw him run wide at the final corner and lose a lap time, Marquez enjoyed another impressive day aboard his Repsol Honda RC213V while Andrea Iannone also shone to finish the day second quickest, just seven thousandths of a second down. The Italian did enjoy the benefit of the extra soft tyre available to open class riders but with six tenths separating him from the next quickest Ducati, Iannone’s performance was impressive nonetheless.

Alvaro Bautista took third place overall ahead of Bradley Smith who bounced back from a high speed crash at the beginning of FP1 to end the day as top Yamaha. The Briton lost the front end of his YZR-M1 at Chemin aux Boeufs on just his second timed lap of the morning but a 1:33.920 on his second machine saw him pip Dani Pedrosa to fourth.

Stefan Bradl was sixth ahead of the first Movistar Yamaha although seventh placed Jorge Lorenzo used a single set of tyres as opposed to the riders ahead of him who did switch to a softer option. Andrea Dovizioso took eighth for Ducati’s factory team ahead of Aleix Espargaro while Valentino Rossi rounds out the top ten overnight.
