Mobil 1 Lubrication in Focus as TOONED returns for Third Season

2 Mins read

The McLaren-Mercedes F1 team have teamed up again with ExxonMobil for another installment of TOONED, the animated series debuted by McLaren back in 2012.   The 2014 series focuses on the benefits of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil and celebrates the 20th anniversary of the technology partnership between McLaren and ExxonMobil.

The latest animated short film created by the award-winning Framestore production team sees 2009 Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button joined in cartoon form by three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and Danish 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion Kevin Magnussen. The three drivers join the ‘genius’ Professor M on a new three-part adventure as they learn about the benefits of Mobil synthetic motor oil, with part 1 called: TOONED presents… Mobil 1 – Oil: An Odyssey.

“The second ExxonMobil and McLaren TOONED collaboration has been fantastic,” said Button.  “The film is a great way for Mobil 1 to really engage with fans and customers, and I’m looking forward to seeing their reaction.  Given ExxonMobil’s focus on promoting the importance of science and mathematics education to young people, the TOONED animated series also presents Mobil 1 technology in a manner that everyone can understand and appreciate.”

The movie sees Button, Magnussen and Stewart taking a fun and informative journey through the technological benefits of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil, and covers molecular engineering, viscosity and extremes in temperature. McLaren rookie Magnussen rises to the top of the class during Professor M’s technology briefing, and the Dane enjoyed making the series.

“I’ve only been a Formula 1 driver since the beginning of the year,” said Magnussen. “Being a part of TOONED is a crazy experience and seeing yourself as a cartoon is kind of cool. I’ve been amazed at the technology Mobil 1 brings to McLaren and being part of telling the story in animation has been fun.”

NASCAR legend Stewart has previously appeared in TOONED, but feels the new adventure is more fun, and his NASCAR team is partnered with Mobil 1 just like McLaren.

“This is my second time participating in the TOONED series,” said Stewart.  “Each new adventure is more fun than the last.  Mobil 1 is a great partner, and this series is another example of just how passionate they are about motorsports and engine oil innovation.”

The motorsports manager of ExxonMobil Artis M. Brown said that the fans of the TOONED series are in for a ‘fun and exciting ride’ during its 2014 installment.

“In this year’s installment, we get the chance to highlight our lubricant technology partnership with McLaren Mercedes as we celebrate our 20th anniversary this race season,” said Brown.  “We also have a unique opportunity to showcase the science and history that has helped make Mobil 1 the world’s leading synthetic motor oil.”
