Campos Racing’s Alex Palou converted his pole position into a win as the EuroFormula Open season got underway at the Nurburgring. The seventeen-year-old Spaniard made a perfect getaway, and was untouchable as the race went on.
Thai driver Sandy Stuvik of RP Motorsport finished three seconds behind Palou having started on the front row, but the main battle was for the third place on the podium. Yu Kanamaru of Emilio de Villota Motorsport eventually achieved third, but it was a hard fought affair with Team West-Tec F3 drivers Cameron Twynham and Tanart Sathienthirakul and with RP Motorsport’s Artur Janosz. Janosz would eventually finish fourth ahead of Sathienthirakul and Twynham.
West-Tec driver Yarin Stern finished seventh, ahead of Palou’s Russian Campos Racing team-mate Konstantin Tereschenko, while Igor Urien of Emilio de Villota Motorsport finished ninth, and West-Tec’s Wei Fung Thong in tenth.
Qualifying for race two will take place Sunday morning, ahead of the race later that afternoon.
