4. Simone Corsi (Moto2)
He may be slipping slightly under the radar but Simone Corsi is having an excellent season with Forward Racing. Aside from the blip at Jerez, the Italian has finished every race inside the top five, no mean feat in a class as competitive as Moto2, and at Mugello he produced another terrific display.
Qualifying hasn’t been the strongest segment of his weekend so far this year and Simone didn’t make life easy for himself in Italy either, finishing down in 22nd spot, but his aggressive style paid dividends in the opening laps. The 27 year old overcame a third of the obstacles between him and the front on the first lap alone before a further five overtakes lifted him into the top ten by the end of the second lap. Progress would be tougher from there though.

Despite that, Corsi negotiated his way through a pack involving riders such as Sam Lowes and Johann Zarco had still had enough in hand to see off Mika Kallio and Dominique Aegerter, two of Moto2’s most reliable performers, to finish a magnificent fourth, even if he needed a photo finish (right) to confirm it.
