2. Marc Marquez (MotoGP)
When you see the same rider winning again and again, it’s easy to be less impressed with every victory and be overcome with a sinking feeling of déjà vu. You cannot have anything but the utmost admiration for Marc Marquez though after his sixth straight win in Italy. This victory was anything but easy. He had to fight tooth and nail for this one.
His route to victory in Le Mans was made tougher by a disastrous opening lap and although he didn’t tumble quite as far down the order this time, Marc had given Jorge Lorenzo one second’s worth of breathing space and usually, that’s all the Yamaha rider needs.
Marc wiped out the deficit with the greatest of ease and after leaving the YZR-M1 for dead down the start/finish straight on lap seventeen but Marc wasn’t going to pull off a Le Mans-style escape act this time, Lorenzo fighting back to lead into the final lap. In the end though, Marc held his nerve and after slipstreaming his way into the lead as they approached San Donato, the youngster produced a faultless last lap which didn’t give Jorge a look-in. Six races down, six victories secured.
