Stuvik Win Strengthens Championship Lead after Janosz Crashes

2 Mins read

RP Motorsport’s Thai driver Sandy Stuvik took his second win of the weekend and fourth of the season to extend his championship lead as second placed Artur Janosz crashed out of race two of the EuroFormula Open event at Jerez.

Janosz led away from pole position, with Stuvik passing second placed Alex Palou’s Campos Racing machine before the end of the opening lap to give chase to his RP Motorsport team-mate. Unfortunately for the Polish driver, he was given a drive-through penalty which he took on lap nine, but on lap eleven, having just passed Tanart Sathienthirakul’s Team West-Tec F3 machine for seventh on the road, Janosz made a mistake and spun, and the Championship contender was collected by Sathienthirakul who could not avoid him, and both drivers were eliminated from the race.

Stuvik dominated the race from there on in, securing his victory by almost seven seconds ahead of Palou, while the third place on the podium for the second day running went to Israeli driver Yarin Stern for Team West-Tec F3.

Russian driver John Simonyan had a strong race for RP Motorsport to finish fourth, while Team West-Tec F3 drivers Cameron Twynham and Nicholas Pohler finished line astern in fifth and sixth, while Sean Walkinshaw was seventh for Campos Racing. Team West-Tec F3’s Wei Fung Thong finished eighth just ahead of DAV Racing’s Gerardo Nieto and RP Motorsport’s Andres Saravia.

Stuvik now has a 31 point advantage in the Drivers’ championship ahead of Janosz, who will be rueing missing out on a good haul of points having seen himself and Stuvik being the class of the field all weekend in Spain.
