Jake Hughes Joins Strakka Racing for Eurocup Debut

1 Mins read

2013 BRDC Formula 4 Champion Jake Hughes has become the first driver to be confirmed to the line-up for the upcoming debut of Strakka Racing in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series.

The team are expanding their programme to accommodate the 2.0 litre category on top of its Formula Renault 3.5 Series programme and its World Endurance Championship campaign. Their campaign will begin when the series resumes in Hungary on the weekend of the 11th and 12th of September.

“Strakka needs no introduction to young single-seater drivers and it’s been brilliant to be in at the beginning of the FR2.0 campaign,” said Hughes, who’s primary series this season has been the Formula Renault Northern European Cup (NEC).  “We’ve done some productive testing, the atmosphere in the team is mint and I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens in Hungary.”

Strakka Racing are using the final three events of 2014 as preparation for a full campaign in 2015, and Team Principal Dan Walmsley believes having someone of the calibre of Hughes, who made his personal Eurocup debut with a guest appearance at Spa earlier this season, in the car for two of those weekends would be beneficial for the team going forward.

“Strakka Racing has entered the final rounds of the Eurocup as a wildcard entry ahead of a full season in 2015,” said Walmsley. “Having Jake in the car brings valuable and current experience in these cars. We know the tracks but we don’t under estimate that this is a category where we have some learning to do. Jake’s input will be a real advantage as we ramp up to 2015.”

The announcement of the second driver will follow in the coming weeks, while the team have also confirmed they have three chassis available, should any driver want to compete in the NEC series or any potential new UK Series that is in the pipeline.
