Lasse Sorensen, the 2014 French F4 Series champion, has been announced as Manor MP Motorsport’s second signing for the 2015 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series season.
The Dane, the younger brother of GP2 Series race winner Marco Sorensen, joins Norwegian Dennis Olsen in the team. Sorensen was the dominant driver in French F4 last year, winning eight wins and nine additional podium finishes, beating Dorian Boccolacci by 149 points.
“I’m feeling very confident for my first season in Eurocup [Formula Renault 2.0]”, said Sorensen. “I won French F4 last year and my aim now is to win Formula Renault, I actually think it’s possible to try and win the championship in the first year.
“Manor MP Motorsport is a great team, there’s a really good atmosphere which I like very much and the balance and set-up of the car is just how I like it. I think we can do a really good job together this year, my goal right now is to go as high as I can in formula racing – the focus is to try and get to F1.”
Manor MP’s Sarah Shaw admitted the team were looking forward to seeing what Sorensen could do in 2015, and believes it could be a good year for the team.
“We’ve got very high hopes for Lasse this season, he really was the class of the field in French F4 last year,” said Shaw. “Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 is a massive challenge for any driver, but Lasse definitely has the ability to become a real contender.
“With a top quality driver like Dennis [Olsen] to learn from and use as a benchmark too, it should be a terrific year.”
Team Principal Sander Dorsman is excited for the forthcoming season, and hopes to have at least three, maybe four drivers in the team for 2015. He was also excited to have been able to secure the services of Sorensen alongside Olsen.
“Everyone at the team is really excited ahead of the new season, with Lasse joining Dennis in our Eurocup squad we’re all feeling confident of a fantastic year,” said Dorsman. “We’ve obviously got a good relationship with the Sorensen family with Marco racing in GP2 with us last year, so it’s fantastic to see Lasse make his Eurocup debut as a Manor MP driver.
“Our plan for Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 this year is to run at least three cars, and we’re working hard to make it a capacity four car team, so it’s perfect for us to already have two such incredibly talented young drivers confirmed.”
