Teenager Ferdinand Habsburg will move up to compete in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup for Fortec Motorsports in 2015.
The Austrian will also compete in a select number of Eurocup races as well as venturing into the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS series during the season, meaning the youngster will have a very busy schedule in 2015.
Fortec Motorsports have had a strong record in the Northern European Cup in recent years, taking drivers to the last three Drivers’ titles, with the team winning two of those three Teams’ titles.
Seventeen-year-old Habsburg, who has been racing in the New Zealand based Toyota Racing Series this winter, admits he wanted to race for Fortec since his karting days.
“When I was karting, Fortec was always the team that I looked up to and admired,” said Habsburg. “Now I am excited to be part of that team and I’m looking forward to getting the season underway.”
Fortec Motorsports Team Manager Martin Young has been impressed by Habsburg’s performances in the Toyota Racing Series, and is hoping he can continue his learning curve into Formula Renault 2.0 in 2015.
“I have to say that I have been very impressed with Ferdinand’s learning curve and this showed in New Zealand,” said Young. “Ferdinand is the type of kid who wants to win and learn and throughout winter testing he has showed that he has the pace to be a front-runner in this year’s Formula Renault NEC.
“Fortec believes strongly that NEC is a breeding ground for the young drivers of the future, and believes Ferdinand can build on his fourth place in the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC last year.”
The NEC Championship begins at Monza over the weekend of the 11th and 12th of April. Plans for his ALPS and Eurocup campaigns have yet to be announced.
