Brazilian teenager Vitor Baptista has become RP Motorsport’s fourth confirmed driver for their 2015 EuroFormula Open campaign.
The sixteen-year-old will make his European racing debut this season having raced in his native Brazil in the inaugural season of F3 Brasil where he dominated Class B, winning thirteen races on his way to the title, beating closest rival Matheus Leist by 92 points and only failing to take the class victory on three occasions.
He was even able to take three overall victories in a supposedly inferior F301 car against the Class A F309’s, including beating Pedro Piquet, the Class A champion and son of former triple Formula 1 World Champion Nelson Piquet.
Baptista joins Guatemalan Andres Saravia, Italian Damiano Fioravanti and Polish driver Igor Walilko in the team for the 2015 season, with the team aiming to continue its winning ways after taking Sandy Stuvik to the Drivers’ title in 2014 as well as claiming the Team’s title at the same time.
Baptista will make his debut at the season opener at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain on the weekend of 11-12 April. He was given the opportunity to test a EuroFormula Open car on a handful of occasions over the winter by series organisers GT Sport.
