Mick Schumacher to debut in ADAC Formula 4

1 Mins read

Fifteen-year-old Mick Schumacher will make his single-seater debut in 2015 after joining Van Amersfoort Racing for the ADAC Formula 4 championship in Germany.

The son of former seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, Mick has been one of the up-and-coming stars of German Karting in recent years, and finished second in the CIK-FIA World and European Championships in 2014, as well as in his local DJKM series.

Team Principal Fritz van Amersfoort revealed it had become tradition within his team to offer the runner-up in the DJKM series a test in their simulator, and was impressed sufficiently to offer Schumacher a test and then the drive in Formula 4 in 2015.

“In the last couple of years, it has become a tradition for us that we offer the runner-up from the German junior karting championship a test session in our simulator,” said van Amersfoort.

“This is handled by the DMSB, the German motorsport authority, and that is how we first got in touch with Mick Schumacher last autumn. He spent a full day in the simulator at our headquarters in The Netherlands.

“Then we witnessed him during a test session at Valencia and eventually, we reached an agreement to compete together in this year’s ADAC Formula 4 series.”
