ADAC Formula 4 makes its début this weekend in Oschersleben, where Guanyu Zhou lines up eighth on the grid, the highest place for any rookie in the series. In doing so, he beats highly rated rookies such as Mick Schumacher and Jonathon Cecotto.
With 38 drivers to start the race on Saturday, because of grid restrictions, Zhou will be hoping to make the most of his promising grid spot and pick up some valuable points. At 15, he is one of the youngest drivers in the field, competing alongside drivers who are older and with much more car racing experience.
The Ferrari youth driver, who steps up from the karting scene had had a quiet weekend having only managed fourteenth and twenty-ninth in the first 2 practice sessions. Despite this, Zhou has managed to pull out an impressive result when it mattered. With only the top 10 positions eligible for points, as in Formula 1, he will have to perform if he wants to get his season off to a competitive start.
The top rookie for the two practice sessions had been Schumacher who had been in the top 5 for both practices. However; Schumacher, who was in group B could not repeat his earlier result and managed tenth in his group with a nineteenth place overall.
As for the grid for Race 2. This will be made of the drivers, second fastest times. Marvin Dienst will line up on pole for the Sunday morning race. He was close to snatching pole for race 1 as well, but was beaten by Joey Mawson and race 1 pole sitter, Janneau Esmeijer. The grid for race 3 will be the race 2 results with the top 10 switched.
