Vitor Baptista dominated race two at the Red Bull Ring to close the gap in the EuroFormula Open championship to Konstantin Tereschenko to just eight points with just three rounds of the season remaining.
The Brazilian RP Motorsport driver led from start to finish in Austria, initially leading a train of four cars before pulling away from them to win the race by 4.910s from Yarin Stern of Team West-Tec F3 after a number of fastest laps.
Stern was forced to focus his attention on Yu Kanamaru, with the Emilio de Villota Motorsport driver remaining in close proximity of the Israeli driver right until the chequered flag.
Tereschenko could only finish fourth for Campos Racing, holding off the advances of Leonardo Pulcini of DAV Racing until the flag, the two drivers finishing less than a second apart.
Tanart Sathienthirakul was sixth in the second Team West-Tec F3 entry, ahead of Diego Menchaca of Campos Racing, while RP Motorsport duo Damiano Fioravanti and Igor Walilko were eighth and ninth ahead of Emilio de Villota Motorsport’s Jose Manuel Vilalta, who took his first point of the season in tenth, just fending off Henrique Baptista of Campos Racing.
The season now takes a two-month break before it reconvenes at Spa-Francorchamps at the beginning of September, with the championship battle between Tereschenko and Baptista set to run until the end of the season.
