Marvin Dienst gets his championship challenge back on track after he picked up the fastest time in the second practice session before qualifying. The HTP Junior driver set a time of 1:22.625. However; this time would only have been good enough for tenth in the opening session.
The fourth round at the Lausitzring saw most of the cars come out of the pits wanting to get the experience in before the all important qualifying session. Janneau Esmeijer was the quickest driver at the start, as he had been in the first practice session. This could mean he might be competitive at the start of the race.
The session saw many midfield drivers impress on the timing screens. Jason Kremer, who only made his debut in the last round, managed to go second on his opening lap, but would slowly slip to fifteenth by the end of the session.
Meanwhile Cedric Piro, who has only collected 1 point this season managed to push Esmeijer off the top and remain competitive for the session. He stayed on top during the red flag period when Arlind Hoti stopped on track in sector two.
With ten minutes remaining the session got back underway, by this point it was clear that all three van Amersfoort Racing cars were struggling with only Joey Mawson improving towards the front by the end.
Mawson managed to go top by one thousandth over Piro, before the pair were both beaten David Beckmann. Like practice one however, there was late change in the leader. With the times having died down it seemed unlikely that there would be a new leader. Despite this, Dienst managed to go top after setting a purple sector one and three.
This displaced Beckmann, Mawson, Piro and Esmeijer behind. Meanwhile, championship leader, Joel Eriksson could only manage eighth.
