Deletraz grabs Saturday Nurburgring pole

1 Mins read

Championship leader Louis Deletraz took pole position for the opening Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 Series race of the weekend at the Nurburgring after coming out on top of his qualifying group.

The Swiss racer set a best time of 1m54.784s in Group A, which was enough for the Josef Kaufmann Racing driver to take top spot, with Group B pacesetter Jack Aitken unable to do any better than a 1m54.899s.

Aitken will line-up second, just ahead of Koiranen GP team-mate Jake Hughes, while Friday pacesetter Ukyo Sasahara will start fourth for the ART Junior Team.

Manor MP Motorsport’s Ignazio D’Agosto was third quickest in Group A, and will start fifth for the opening race as a result, with JD Motorsport’s Matevos Isaakyan seventh and Fortec Motorsport’s Jehan Daruvala ninth.

Fortec Motorsports’ Ben Barnicoat was third quickest in Group B and subsequently starts sixth, with Kevin Jörg eighth for Josef Kaufmann Racing and Simon Gachet tenth for Tech 1 Racing.

The opening session was affected by a crash for Tech 1 Racing’s Anthoine Hubert, who appeared to suffer a right-rear failure on his car that sent him into the barriers between Ford-Kurve and Dunlop-Kehre. The Frenchman, who won race three at Silverstone last weekend, will start thirteenth.
