Defourny to continue in Formula Renault in 2016

1 Mins read

Up-and-coming Belgian driver Max Defourny will return to Formula Renault 2.0 competition in 2016 having announced a dual-campaign in both the Eurocup and NEC championships with the ART Junior Team.

Seventeen-year-old Defourny made his Renault 2.0 debut in 2015 with Strakka Racing having moved up from French Formula 4, but switched to ART when Strakka withdrew from the championship, taking two victories in NEC at Spa-Francorchamps and the Nurburgring, and had a best finish of ninth in one of his wildcard outings with the team in Eurocup.

Defourny had been long linked to a return to the squad for 2016 having topped all four sessions across the two-day test at Motorland Aragon last November. He had also been courted by several GP3 Series and Formula 3.5 V8 outfits before committing to another season in Formula Renault 2.0.

“After some great results last year, I am very excited for the 2016 season to contest Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup and NEC with the ART Junior Team,” said Defourny. “We have a strong synergy together and I’ve felt good in the car.

“I will be pushing for the championship this year with the goal of stepping into a higher tier again in 2017.”
