Guy Martin is set to make his rallycross debut this year taking part in a round of the British Rallycross Championship in former champion Ollie O’Donovan‘s Ford Focus.
While it is unknown what round Martin will take part in, it has been confirmed by Team RX Racing that the motorcycle and TV star will be driving their Focus.
“It’s something different and that always excites me,” said Martin. “I’m looking forward to the challenge some time later in the year subject to other commitments.”
Team owner O’Donovan is happy with Martin taking part and believes that it will be a good boost for the championship and his team, “Guy is a huge name. Many people will know who he is without being heavily into motorsport or bike racing. It’s a pleasure to have him compete as part of Team RX Racing,” he said.
Martin will have chance to run in the Tony Bardy Motorsport prepared Focus before the event, whilst also experiencing the 1000cc Fireblade RR powered RX150 buggy.
“I’m sure he will have no problem learning to drive the car, but we will go through everything with him at a test session to give him the best chance possible at whichever event he does. We’re all really excited to be working with him, he’s a real racer and I think rallycross will suit him very well.”
“I know that when Guy sees a buggy he will want to have a go in it,” said O’Donovan. “So we’ll make sure there is one available at the test.”
Visitors to the 2016 Autosport International Show can see the Focus and an RX150 buggy at the team’s stand this weekend, along with the opportunity to grab Martin’s autograph.
