A dominant display from Jack Aitken ensured his maiden EuroFormula Open championship victory during Sunday’s second race around the Portuguese circuit of Estoril.
The Anglo-Korean Renault Sport Academy driver led from start to finish from pole position for RP Motorsport’s first victory of the year, with Aitken winning by 9.256s from race one winner Leonardo Pulcini of Campos Racing.
It was a much cleaner start than was seen in Saturday’s opener, with Aitken getting the best getaway to lead into the first corner ahead of Pulcini, while Damiano Fioravanti settled into third, also for RP Motorsport, a position he would hold on to until the chequered flag.
Diego Menchaca held off a race long challenge from Carlin driver Colton Herta to claim fourth for Campos Racing, while Tatiana Calderon claimed her first points of the season in sixth for Teo Martin Motorsport after jumping ahead of Ferdinand Habsburg at the start.
Habsburg would drop to ninth following a mid-race mistake by the Drivex School driver, enabling Igor Walilko to claim seventh for Fortec Motorsports ahead of Campos Racing’s Julio Moreno, while Kevyan Andres completed the top ten for Carlin behind Habsburg.
