Formula 3 stalwarts Fortec Motorsports and Team West-Tec F3 have formed an alliance to field a team in the 2016 EuroFormula Open championship.
The two British teams have formed Fortec – West-Tec for the forthcoming season, and have announced Polish driver Igor Walilko as their first driver.
Walilko raced for RP Motorsport in 2015, and secured two podium finishes at Spa-Francorchamps and Monza, and will be looking to build on his tenth place finish in the championship.
The alliance is also working on introducing a second car alongside Walilko for later in the season.
Fortec had hinted at a move into EuroFormula Open after being unable to continue in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship, but while West-Tec have also left the same championship this year, they already had a presence in EuroFormula Open, and fielded two full season cars for Yarin Stern and Tanart Sathienthirakul last year, while also handing one off races to Mahaveer Raghunathan and Sam MacLeod.
Two late entrants into the championship are with Walilko’s former RP Motorsport team, with 2015 Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS champion Jack Aitken joining EuroFormula Open veteran Sathienthirakul alongside the already confirmed Antoni Ptak, Kantadhee Kusiri and Damiano Fioravanti.
