The FIA World Rally Championship has announced that rally fans around the world will have additional dedicated coverage of the supporting WRC2 category from Rally Argentina (21 – 24 April) onwards.
The highlight package will be available to broadcasters within hours of the Sunday finish along with additional highlights via the WRC’s YouTube channel, the WRC+ interactive digital service, the official championship website at www.wrc.com and across the series’ social media platforms.
The WRC2 category has enjoyed a boost this season from the likes of Elfyn Evans, Armin Kremer, Teemu Suninen battling it out at the top of the table with support from Esapekka Lappi, Pontus Tidemand, Quentin Gilbert and Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari.
WRC2 has produced some great drivers that have gone on to impress in the top WRC class including Robert Kubica, Eric Camilli and Stéphane Lefebvre.
“Rising entries and increasing fan interest in WRC 2 reflect the popularity and importance of the WRC’s support championships for drivers, teams and their commercial partners,” said WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla.
“The increased appeal is further indication of the positive development of our sport. As the European gravel rallies approach, where entries are traditionally at their strongest, we’ve been encouraged to offer fans more opportunity to enjoy the excitement of WRC 2.”
Aside from the additional coverage, fans will also be able to track their favorite WRC2 driver realtime via the WRC+ service using GPS, live timing, live text and live radio.
“A bigger focus on WRC 2 across our outlets will generate increased global exposure, particularly in countries in which their leading rally stars are pursuing success in that category,” said Ciesla.
