The 2016 Motorsport Ireland Young Driver of the year winner; Jake Byrne has pulled out of the programme with immediate effect, meaning he will be around for the next Formula Ford UK 1600 round at Rockingham.
He felt there was no solutions forthcoming to remedy these issues and has decided to pull out of the incentive. Byrne is a multiple race winner in the FF1600 category, as well as in Global GT Lights and Ginetta Junior Ireland.
The Formula Ford racer was on course to finish in the top three in last years Formula Ford Festival Final, unfortunately an accident brought an end to his venture. It’s an event he’s raced in four times before in the Kent Class and the Walter Hayes Trophy.
“I feel I have no choice here.” said Byrne. “I have had issues from day one and I have had a few meetings and there were some suggested solutions but unfortunately none of these have materialised, my only alternative is to withdraw from the prize drive. I don’t feel the support I was promised was forthcoming and I will now reconsider my options going forward for 2016.”
The 21 year old is now looking for options for the rest of 2016 as he prepares for next year.
